Dell BIOS update for 15R (5537) 5437A09

Tags

Hello.

Dell's Product Support lists a BIOS update that is supposed (according to Dell's web site) to be compatible with Dell Inspiron 14 (3437), 14R (5437), 15 (3537) and 15R (5537) laptops.
Dell's web site also showed that the file was relevant to my service tag (a 15R 5537).
I have downloaded the file to my 15R (5537): 5437A09.EXE
Ran the executable from my Windows 8.1 desktop, and after a short delay pops up a window saying that it is not supported.
Created a bootable DOS USB stick. Ran the file from DOS and same occurs.
If the BIOS update is indeed relevant to my laptop, then get it corrected.
If the BIOS is not relevant to my laptop (via its service tag) the correct the listing, as someone at Dell has incorrectly marked it as relevant.
You can view the info about the 5437A09.exe file at Dell's web site:
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails;fileId=3465658173&osCode=WB64A&productCode=inspiron-15r-5537&languageCode=EN&categoryId=BI&DCP=DNDTAG

ans :
Unless you are having a problem, it's not necessary to update the system BIOS.  The version of the driver you have linked to fixes the following:
Fixes
- Fixed ee-erase behavior.
- Fixed USER PASSWORD HELP information.
- Fixed disable external USB 3.0 port fail issue.
So, if you are not having problems with these, you will not need to install the driver.
Additionally, the driver is only applicable to the following OS's, so Windows 8.1 is not supported.
This file format consists of a BIOS executable file. The Universal (Windows/MS DOS) format can be used to install from Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 2000, NT, Windows 9X, Windows ME or a MS DOS environment.

Robert
